Uttar Pradesh, a state in northern India, is home to several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries.

List of National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in Uttar Pradesh: Uttar Pradesh is one of the most populated states in India. It is famous for its rich culture and Taj Mahal, made by Mughal king Shahajahan. Although here only one popular national park is available, there are many wildlife sanctuaries which make this state prosperous and beautiful.

A national park is an area protected by the government for the preservation of wildlife and biodiversity. Within this area, no public development such as building, agriculture, transportation, factory set up etc are allowed. However, people can visit these national parks and wildlife sanctuaries to enjoy the natural scenario.

1. Dudhwa National Park :

Dudhwa National Park is situated at Tarai, district of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. It is spread over 500 square kilometres and occupies the upper Gangetic plains and it is a vast alluvial plain. It was established in 1977. Major attractions of this park are tiger, leopard, deer, jackal etc. There are over 300 species of birds in this national park. Among them swamp francolin and slaty woodpecker are famous.

2. Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary:

Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary is situated within the region of Meerut, Muzzafarnagar, Ghaziabad, Bijnor, and Amroha districts of Uttar Pradesh. It is very sanctuary. It is founded in the year of 1986 by govt of India. It is spread over 2000 square km. A large number of jungle cats, hyenas, wolves etc enriched this area.

3. National Chambal Sanctuary :

This wildlife sanctuary is situated over three states of India and the tripoint of the Chambal River. It is governed by the forest department of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The total area of this wildlife sanctuary is over 5000 square km. It is famous for its genetic Dolphin. Another name for this area is Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary.

4. Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary

Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the district of Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh. Its area is nearly 80 sq. km. The date of foundation of this wildlife sanctuary is 1972. Leopards are the main attraction of this area for tourists. There are more than 250 species of birds available here.

A large number of medicinal plants and herbs are found here which is an extra speciality of this area. Rajdari and Devadari are two famous waterfalls of this sanctuary.

5. Pilibhit Tiger Reserve

The area of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve is covered by three districts of Uttar Pradesh: Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich District and its area is over 800 sq. km. This is a new wildlife sanctuary and was founded in 2014. The good ecological conditions allow the tigers to live in a suitable environment. More than 130 species of animal and 500 species of birds are found here.

6. Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary

Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary is an old name of Shahid Chandra Shekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary which is situated in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. It was founded in 1984. This area is protected by over 245 kinds of temporary birds which are migrated from Siberia, Tibet, Russia and Mongolia. The name indicates that the variety of birds is the major attraction of this sanctuary.
